Leadership Transition at Standby UK: Roy McClarty Appointed as Managing Director as Robert Blakemore Steps Down

Standby UK announces a key leadership transition as Robert Blakemore steps down from his role as Managing Director, passing the baton to Roy McClarty, who previously served as General Manager. This marks a new chapter for the business, which has grown significantly under Robert’s long-standing leadership.

From Family Business to Industry Leader

Originally founded in 1961 as Riches Street Garage in Wolverhampton, the company evolved over the years into RSG Engineering Ltd, establishing itself as a trusted provider of warning and safety systems for Public Utilities and Emergency Services. After working for the business for six years on a part time basis, Robert took a full-time position in 1996, taking over from his father, Bernard Blakemore, and leading the company into a new era of product innovation, operational growth, and market relevance.

In 2020, RSG Engineering Ltd was acquired by Argynnis Group AB, a Swedish family-owned industrial group. With this acquisition, RSG became part of the Standby Group, a leading European supplier of warning and safety systems for Emergency, Commercial and Special Vehicles. The move aligned with Standby’s strategy to strengthen its UK presence and broaden its market reach. Following the acquisition, RSG was rebranded as Standby RSG (later Standby UK), and Robert continued as Managing Director, helping integrate the business into the wider Standby family.

Reflecting on his journey, Robert Blakemore said:

“It’s been an incredible journey – from our origins as a small family-run business to becoming part of a European market leader. I’m proud of what we’ve achieved over the decades and grateful for the relationships we’ve built along the way. The company is in a strong position, and I have every confidence that Roy will continue to lead Standby UK with energy, focus, and a deep commitment to our customers.”

Roy McClarty brings a wealth of operational experience and in-depth industry knowledge, having played a pivotal role in day-to-day leadership in recent years. Roy’s last tenure at RSG took place from 2003 to 2006 when he was Business Development Manager – North. He will now guide Standby UK through its next phase of development, with a focus on innovation, customer service, and sustained growth.

I look forward to continuing our work supporting those who rely on our solutions, while also expanding our offering and capabilities to meet the future needs of the Emergency Services and specialist vehicle sectors.”

A Thank You to Robert

The entire team at Standby UK thanks Robert Blakemore for his decades of leadership, dedication, and passion—and looks forward to the continued success of the business under Roy’s leadership.
