We’re Hiring: Technical Operations Manager

Standby UK is looking for an experienced Technical Operations Manager to lead and support our Technical, R&D, Aftersales, Quality, and Environmental teams — including Apprenticeships and Training.

This senior leadership role is integral to the company’s success, driving technical excellence, product development, and quality assurance across the UK, Republic of Ireland, and wider Standby Group locations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, and develop a multidisciplinary technical team across Technical, Aftersales, and Quality functions.
  • Direct technical projects and contribute to wider Group technical initiatives and product innovation events.
  • Champion quality, environmental, and sustainability practices within the company.
  • Support the development of the company’s product portfolio, with a strong focus on vehicle CAN and electrical integration.
  • Provide expert pre- and post-sales technical support, training, and customer engagement.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Operations, and Finance to ensure alignment, resource planning, and delivery within budget.
  • Promote continuous improvement and enforce technical processes and best practices.
  • Oversee apprenticeships, mentoring, and professional development within the team.

Candidate Profile

We’re seeking a proven leader with experience managing technical teams and delivering complex engineering or vehicle-based solutions. You’ll be a strong communicator and influencer with excellent problem-solving and organisational skills.

You should be:

  • Decisive, persuasive, and motivational

  • Analytical and systematic, yet flexible in approach

  • A confident communicator, both verbally and in writing

  • Willing to travel across the UK and internationally

Essential Qualifications & Skills
  • Minimum Level 6 qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline (e.g., Science or Engineering)

  • Strong knowledge of vehicle mechanics, electrical systems, and CAN technologies

  • Experience leading technical teams and managing resources effectively

  • Competence in MS Office and familiarity with JIRA or similar project management tools

  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable Skills
  • Automotive electrical installation and diagnostics

  • PLC programming experience

  • Knowledge of ISO9001 and ISO14001 standards

  • Full colour vision

Location

Based at Standby UK, 19 Hollies Business Park, Cannock, Staffordshire WS11 1DB, with some off-site and international work.
